Work Stress and Job Burnout:the Moderating Effects of Psychological CapitalChinese Full Text

Abstract: The aim of this study is to explore the relation between job stressors and job burnout,particularly testing the moderating effects of psychological capital.A self-administered questionnaire survey is conducted to collect data from 493 employees in a communication company.A series of hierarchical regression analyses are used for data analyses.The results are as below: job stressors are positively related to all the three dimensions of job burnout,although the correlation of job stressors and reduced professional efficacy is lower than the other tow dimensions;workload and career development are positively related to emotional exhaustion,while career development and interpersonal relationship are positively related to cynicism;psychological capital is positively related to all the three dimensions of job burnout;psychological capital buffers the relations between career development and cynicism,and the buffering effect is also significant in the relations between interpersonal relationship and cynicism,which indicates that when the stress on career development or interpersonal relationship is high,employees with a higher psychological capital would get less job burnout than the ones with a lower psychological capital.
