Artificial Intelligence to Solve E-commerce Logistics ’Last Mile’Problem

摘要:Addresses in developing nations such as India,South East Asia,Latin America and Africa are an enigma.They are highly non-standard and non-hierarchical.Add to that there are streets with no names or unstructured addresses,and slum-like areas that change frequently,as well as most villages are where there are no concepts of streets and house.The ambiguity around addresses has large impact on the timeliness and cost of delivery of an e-commerce parcel package.The ’last mile’,which represents delivery from your local delivery center to your house,typically cost 8-12%of the total delivery cost in western countries.In emerging market,it can be as high as 25-30%.This adds up to billion dollar additional costs through 2020,just for Indian e-commerce companies.This talk will focus on how an Artificial Intelligence(AT) based Address Mapping system ’understands’ the unstructured addresses and resolves them to nearest localities for delivering.This system has been in deployment at Delhivery,India’s largest e-commerce logistics company.It processes over200,000 addresses per day with an accuracy of over 95%,has reduced nation-wide misroute by80%in past 18 months and has increased the last mile efficiency by 40%.
