Eco-friendly Extreme Pressure Lubricants for Water based Drilling Fluids

摘要：Water based drilling flu ids possess very high coefficient of frict ion as compared to oil based drilling flu ids（mud）. High coeffic ient of friction can be reduced by a dding lubricating additives to the mud. Lubricating agents reduces the torque and drag produced during the drilling process. Our study involves the analysis of various eco- friendly Extre me Pressure lubricating additives which are derivatives of fatty acid s, seed oil. Non-d ispersed conventional mud, Non-dispersed salt water mud and Inhib itive Poly me r mud systems were used as Base mud for the study. Different o il additives are added in proportion ranging fro m 1.75 ppb to 7.0 ppb and also in combination by fo rmulat ing Ext re me Pressure Lubricants. Ext re me Pressure Film strength and Lubric ity coefficients we re carried out using OFITE Lubric ity/ Ext re me p ressure Tester. Detailed study on rheology, cheesing/ greasing effect, Mud weight, foa ming tendency, p H and pe rformance in brine phase were a lso analyzed. Pure seed oil is found to be best lubricant fro m the set of oil samples. It showed excellent lubricity coeffic ient and ext re me pressure film strength in all three types of mud systems. This was followed by the fatty acid derivative of the same seed oil.
