摘要:Machining of metal matrix composites(MMCs) is a big challenge for manufacturing industries due to it’s superior mechanical properties.Unconventional machining processes(UMPs) are widely accepted to machine these MMCs.Electrical discharge machining(EDM) is one of such UMP which is most widely used to machine these advanced materials. However, the poor machining efficiency in terms of low material removal rate and high tool wear rate(TWR) are the circle of concern for manufacturing industries while using EDM to machine these materials.Powder mixed EDM(PMEDM) process may help to overcome above mentioned limitations up to some extent. The aim of present research is to investigate the machining performance of copper-iron-carbide MMC using PMEDM.A hybrid approach of artificial neural network and genetic algorithm has been used to develop the intelligent model for TWR and subsequent optimization with the experimental data obtained by central composite rotatable design.
