Multi-channel analysis of surface waves（MASW） using CMP analysis to identify soil problems threat on the heritage site at Georgetown, Malaysia
摘要：We used the multi-channel analysis of surface waves（MASW） method adopting CMPCC technique to identify the cause of fractures/cracks observed on the walls and ceilings of a heritage building located in Georgetown, Malaysia. The S-wave velocity reveals that the site is composed of materials with a low shear wave velocity which varies across the site and with depth. An anomalous feature was observed on the S-wave velocity sections, which is possibly due to a buried old channel, which was hitherto not known. The results suggest that the site is characterized by soft clay, as revealed also by resistivity measurements. As such, there is a high potential for swelling that can result in sliding of the foundations in differential motion. A phenomenon that might be the possible cause of the observed fractures/cracks on the building.
