摘要:Certification of large laminate aerospace parts, such as wing spars, rely on experimental testing of narrow specimen. These curved laminate coupons are subject to edge effects, not present in the actual structure, that lead to conservative knock-down factors for the parts. FE analysis has the potential to model entire component parts and to reduce this conservatism. But due to the multiscale nature of large structures manufactured from very thin layers of plies with anisotropic material properties, separated by even thinner resin-rich(and thus weaker) interface layers, this can be extremely challenging. Commercial FE tools are typically unable to model such components down to the plylevel or to study the influence of manufacturing defects.
