Experimental Study on Optimum Asphalt Content of Basalt Fiber Asphalt Mixtures Considering Fine Aggregates Reduction

摘要:The use of basalt fiber can effectively improve the pavement performance of asphalt mixtures,but the asphalt content will be increased with the addition of basalt fiber.This may make a higher cost of pavement construction,which seriously impacts the application of basalt fiber asphalt mixture.This study aims to reduce the optimum asphalt content of basalt fiber asphalt mixture by optimizing the gradation design.The fine aggregate content in the basalt fiber asphalt mixture is adjusted based on the calculation of the average asphalt film thickness.After adjustment,the high-temperature stability,low-temperature crack resistance and moisture stability of basalt fiber asphalt mixtures are performed.The result shows that the best asphalt-aggregate ratio of asphalt mixture with a maximum nominal sieve size of 13 mm is 4.7%,and the best asphalt-aggregate ratio is4.9%after adding 0.3%basalt fiber with a length of 6 mm.Comparative test results indicate that the optimum asphalt content of basalt fiber asphalt mixtures with less fine aggregate content can be reduced by 0.2%to0.4%.And the penetration strength is slightly reduced by 2.42%compared with the original basalt fiber asphalt mixture.The low-temperature crack resistance and moisture stability performance also have a small decrease.But compared with the asphalt mixture without basalt fiber,the performance still improves significantly.Based on a slight influence on the performance of basalt fiber asphalt mixture,the optimum asphalt content is reduced through optimized gradation design,which greatly saves the pavement construction cost.This will be of great significance to the promotion of using basalt fiber asphalt mixture.
