Effective Pulses Discriminator and Direct-Drive Jump Control for High Efficiency Electrical Discharge Machining(EDM) Processes

摘要:<正>A novel pulses discriminator for linear motors equipped electrical discharge machining(EDM) and a control strategy for its high efficiency deep-hole processing were proposed.EDM is such a slow machining process dominated by its low removal rate and debris ejection nature.The properties of EDM debris extruding under direct drive(LmEDM) was discussed,and a pulse discriminator was developed to detect gap status. Considering conventional CNC EDM allowed only fixed setting of jump parameters,which wasted effective working time significantly.By introducing the novel pulses discriminator to monitor and control the effective discharge pulses,an EDM jump control associated with this removal feedback was proposed.Several experiments for verification of the proposed sensor were conducted.It is evident that the discriminator was effective and direct-drive EDM with such a jump controller was faster than traditional EDM by4.1 times,for 35 mm deep and 2.0 mm thick of die sinker EDM processes.
