Application of Surface Contact Elements for Finite Element Analysis of Fixed Tube Sheet Heat Exchanger:A New Approach

摘要：In this technical effort we have to be more precise in design and analysis of mechanical components of heat exchanger.Depending on the loads,material,boundary conditions,bonding between surfaces of tubes and baffles can come into and go out of contact in a largely unpredictable and abrupt manner.In addition to this,most contact surfaces need to account friction laws.In order to make the material model development more systematic,we have developed a procedure[FEM]that makes use of surface contact optimization to derive optimal values of stress and deflection parameters.From the viewpoint of failure history,waste heat recovery unit heat exchanger is selected for FEM demonstration.This work includes studies of bending stress in tubes,deflection of tubes and its effect on tube sheet stress,with and without using surface contacts.Deflection of tubes can be controlled using proper bonding between surfaces of tubes and baffles.This work shows deflection of the tubes can be analytically reduced to 0.23xl0-3m from 2.64xl0-3m[91%]which shows this approach is more realistic than the bonded contact model.Some advantages and particular points of interest for surface contact consideration are discussed.
