ROCK STRESSES,ROCK STRENGTHS AND SPALLING PREDICTION

摘要:<正>To predict rock spalling around an underground excavation,a knowledge of the rock strength and the in situ rock stress state is required.Both these parameters usually show considerable variation at any given site,and therefore a methodology is required that captures this variation.In this paper,we combine recent research into the ratios between the magnitudes of the principal stresses and a fuzzy mathematics approach to rock parameter uncertainty to provide a methodology for approaching rock spalling/bursting estimation for rock engineering design.We present the effect of uncertainties in rock strength and in situ stress on the susceptibility to spalling in such a way that site investigation resources may be more effectively utilised,
